WPS Spring Clinical Meeting 2022

The Welsh Paediatric Society Spring Clinical Meeting will take place at the Arts Centre in Aberystwyth on Friday 27th May 2022.
This 1 day event showcases the latest scientific presentations from paediatricians across Wales and neighbouring deaneries, together with lectures from guest speakers and will be followed by a dinner and entertainment in the evening.
Submit your abstract now, deadline for submission is Monday 21st March.

Keynote speakers
Dr Peter Dale has been Consultant Paediatrician and Gastroenterologist in Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and The Wales Paediatric Gastroenterology Network since 1998. For the last 9 years he has been leading the Paediatric Lipid service in Wales and is one of the founding members of the National Paediatric Familial Hypercholesterolaemia Steering Group and registry.
Peter originates from Whitley Bay, a coastal town, not far from the great footballing city of Newcastle. Following graduating from Newcastle upon Tyne Medical School and early training in Northumberland, he commenced paediatric training in Manchester and then moving over to Liverpool where he completed his Paediatric Gastroenterology training in Alder Hey Childrens Hospital.
Following his initial role as RCPCH Regional Advisor for Paediatrics in Wales, he was appointed as Associate Dean and the Head of the Wales Paediatric Training School. In 2016 Dr Dale was appointed as Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health National Officer for Training and has recently completed his tenure in this senior College post. He has played lead roles in the development of the RCPCH Shape of Training and Progress Training curricula and many of the paediatric SPIN training modules.
Throughout his career Peter has always been enthusiastic about paediatric training and supporting trainees not only in the UK but also has extensive experience of working in Ethiopia and Uganda.
He has been a MRCPCH examiner since his early consultant years and with consultant colleagues across Wales has supported several very successful MRCPCH courses.
He has published widely in Paediatric Gastroenterology, Familial Hypercholesterolaemia and Schwachman Diamond Syndrome.
Matt Pickup undertook his paediatric training in Wales. He completed training in 2021 and is currently working as a locum paediatric consultant in Glangwili General Hospital.
He has an interest in Neonatal Medicine and is passionate about providing the best possible care to babies and their families in Local Neonatal Units. He is currently studying for an MSc in Medical Education with Swansea University.
He lives in sunny West Wales with his wife and two young children.
Professor White works for Swansea Bay University Health Board and Swansea University Medical School. She trained in Paediatric Neurology at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and British Columbia Children’s Hospital, Vancouver.
She is currently a British Paediatric Neurology Association Council Member, part of the Development Group and Editorial Board of UK Paediatric Epilepsy Training Courses and of the Steering Committee for UK Paediatric Neurology Distance Learning Course.
Current research interests include epilepsy genetics, the use of big data sets in healthcare and Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension.
Dr Mutalib is a consultant paediatric gastroenterologist at Evelina London Children’ Hospital part of Guy’s and St Thomas’s NHS Foundation Trust. Dr Mutalib was trained in many London hospitals and worked as a consultant at Great Ormond Street Hospital before moving to Evelina to establish the paediatric gastroenterology service.
Dr Mutalib special interest is GI motility disorders, he is a member of the Motility Working Group of the British and the European Societies of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition. He is also leading the only comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic GI Motility Service at the Southeast of England.
Josef trained in London, Wales and the Northwest of England before being appointed at Alder Hey. He has a specialist interest in the treatment of Hirschsprung’s disease, anorectal malformations, IBD and the surgical management of functional lower GI disorders.
After graduating from India; Saurabh did his SHO rotation in the north east of England. He completed ST training for paediatrics in Wales along with SPIN in respiratory paediatrics. He has a post graduate qualification in paediatric emergency medicine. He worked as a consultant paediatrician at Carmarthen; HDUHB for 6 years before joining as a consultant in paediatric emergency medicine at Morriston hospital; Swansea in 2020. He has been a member of the Wales RCPCH executive committee from 2017. During this tenure; he contributed as RCPCH representative to the Transition and handover group formed by the Welsh assembly government.
He is the current deputy regional lead RCPCH (South Wales) for last year and has recently started as the Educational lead for paediatric training HEIW.

Aberystwyth is historic seaside market town that has a cosmopolitan Welsh culture located on the coast of west Wales, nestled between the Cambrian Mountains and Cardigan Bay. It is a universty town which forms a cultural link between North Wales and South Wales.
